Home Activities

Once again, I am thankful for PINTEREST for giving me ideas of activities to keep my little preschooler occupied at home on a weekend or after school

Here are some of the activities suitable for 3/4 years old. Xavier enjoyed most of them.

It's my 34th Birthday

Today is my birthday and it's hard to believe I'm already 34 because I don't feel my age :)
It doesn't seem so long ago that I turned the big 3-0
It's been a good 34 years of living I cannot complain and I'm sure there is more to come
Thanks again for all the birthday wishes! I felt so loved receiving messages on many different modes of media. Everywhere I looked, I saw birthday wishes and kind words and it was awesome. Thanks, Family and Friends!

Actually, I am not a fan of Birthday. I don't know why. Maybe because my age is catching up or I just don't like the attention. To me, birthday is just like a normal day and I want it as simple as possible. I am happy with just dinner and cake that's it!
There's nothing I need, other than GOOD HEALTH for my family!

Learning to recognise numbers 1-20

17 January 2015

Xavier's teacher had began to teach him how to recognise number 1 to 20 both in English and Mandarin in school....

So as an reinforcement, I use flashcards and a few homeschool projects to practice counting together. He's done in English but for Mandarin still mixes up with 13, 14, 15.

The challenging part is that Xavier usually prefers to speak in English. No matter how hard I try to converse with him in Mandarin, most of the time he will reply me in English. However, he could perfectly understand what I am trying to tell him so I think that is good enough for now.

Simple activity (counting, number recognition)

The sweetest moment

18 Jan 2015

Last weekend, we went to Ikea for a walk. When we were at the plants aisle, Xavier turned and passed me a stalk of red daisy. Our exact conversation on that day:

M: Oh thank you, baby boy!
X: you like it?
M: Why do you give me a flower? (Expected him to say because is your birthday)
X: Mummy, because you love me so much so i give you this flower!
M: Thank you and I love you! Do you want to give one to papa too?
X: boys don't need flower!

I am amazed and amused by his understanding of things happening around him. Xavier can totally feel my love for him and he is always so darling, I love him so much!

Enrichment Class - First Swimming Class

Recently, I talked to some parent in school. They asked me "what other enrichment classes you have enrolled for your boy? the current curriculum in school is definitely not sufficient for the kids. Blah Blah Blah....."

This really set me thinking. Not thinking what enrichment classes to sign up but to feel the kaisu-ness of the parents. In my own opinion - enrolling kids for enrichment classes is to nurture them and bring the best out of them, not to drown them with the fear that their children will lose out in the future.

Currently, Xavier's school do offer additional enrichment programmes now. I have enrolled him to swimming class to  build his water confidence level, chinese speech and drama to improve his Mandarin and abacus and I feel that it is sufficient for him. After all, the learning journey should be fun and interesting in a relaxed environment.

14 Jan, first swimming class, I went to the school earlier to catch a glimpse of how was my boy doing..  I was hiding in a corner taking pic and video LOL!
At first, he refused to wear the goggle or to hold on to the swim board. Haha! I can understand because he had never use them before... but nearing the end of the lesson he got more confident and he enjoyed himself. Keep it up!

First Biking Experience

On 12 Oct 15, Xavier turned 3 years and 3 months old
Hubby installed his new four wheeled bicycle and brought him out for his first ride
At first, he doesn't understand the concept for peddling at all and he doesn't even really like it for anyone to push him on it
So basically he climbs on it, sits there, smiles for a while, gets off and pushed it around
But after a few tries, he got the hang of it and started to maneuver left and right and uses all his might to peddle. Finally, he's able to cycle from one end to the other all by himself.. He's so happy with his achievement! Feel so proud of him.
He looks so grown up on it and looks so sweet in his little helmet which he calls a hat. He is turning into such a big boy now. Its exciting but a little sad too. We love watching him grown and seeing all the new things he learns and figures out each day!

From Pre-Nursery to Nursery

Just like that, Xavier moves up from pre-nursery to the next stage in the nursery. It only seems like yesterday that I was dropping him off for his first visit.

So far he has done really well and is very happy and settled.
So happy to see him looking forward to school everyday

A picture of us

Xavier loves to draw. His favourite shape is circle.

He always start with drawing a big circle as the face
next he will add two little circle with dots as the eyes
the nose will another small little circle
eyebrow and mouth will be random stroke (it can be short lines or a tiny dots)
Zig zag for hair
and lastly 2 loops at the side for ears

DA~DA~ that's him in the picture...

He drew a picture for us too!
That's me LOL!

And that's papa!

Cycling at East Coast Park

3 January 2015

We went to East Coast Park last weekend to try out the family bike. So we woke up bright and early last Saturday and made our way there.
After a quick breakfast at Burger King, we rented the bike and get going. Xavier was all excited and ready to go.

The rental fee for the family bike is $30 for an hour and at 2 hours for $45. The price is outrageous but we still go ahead to sign up for it since this is our first family biking experience.

We enjoyed the sea breeze, chatted and look out for dogs, ships and birds and for that 1 hour, we just took things slowly. It was so nice and definitely a very good family outing.  Must do this more often!
