Learning to self feed

After talking with some wives last week about our 2 years old toddler boy, I got to thinking that maybe I need to work a little more with Xavier on self feeding.

Xavier has been interested in self feeding for quite sometime since he was about 15 months old. He would be happy to scoop up handful of porridge or cereal out of the bowl and shove them into his mouth if I let him. His coordination just isn't there yet. Most of the time, if the spoon even makes it to her mouth, it's upside down or sideways

Lately, his motor skills / development improved drastically... the mess created is not compared previously so now I will let him sit on his chair and had dinner together with us.

He seems to enjoy a lot!

Our little conversation during dinner:
Me: time for dinner
X: NO!! Mama feed Xavier
Me: u big boy, u have to start feeding yourself
X: NO! NO!
Me: ok u can have ur dinner later then
X: I want to eat! and start feeding himself
Me: overjoyed and hurrahing and praising him
X: mummy no shouting and put his little finger on his mouth and said "shss shss"
Me: faint

My little boy has grown up!

New food on the list

Last week, I added some new food for Xavier's lunch box:

Dessert - avocado puree with sliced banana
The sight of it looks eek! but it packed with goodness

Avocados contain “oleic acid”, a monounsaturated fat that may help lower cholesterol
Avocado is a good source of potassium, a mineral that helps regulate blood pressure

Roll cake / swiss roll
Finally get down to make a roll with strawberry and blueberry filling
it's not difficult as it seems

Steamed Pumpkin muffin

Mac and cheese with homemade white sauce
leftover I made into a mini muffin cup

Pasta with homemade sauce (Butternut, sweet potatoes, onion and parmesan cheese)

Felt so accomplished
cooking with love for the ones you LOVE!

Fun in puddles

After fetching Xavier from school
he spotted a puddle while strolling down the path
He sees a PUDDLE!
A place for some fun
How could he possibly pass it up?
This was when his rain boots come in handy
quickly changed into it and take time to step in some puddles
and enjoy the simple pleasures :)

Xavier 2nd year old at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center

On 12 Oct, which is Xavier's actual birthday we get to go to an awesome wildlife center not too far from us that we can drive around and feed all the animals!
"Fossil Rim Wildlife Center @ Glen Rose"

We left early morning and drove 1.5hours to get there
It was well worth it
Feeding the animals out of our hands was so much fun
 Definitely a memory maker!

Camwhoring along the journey

Start of our adventure:
Bought our entrance tickets and a bag of food to feed the animals for $44

This is the fallow deer
At first, Xavier was a little skeptical about feeding them
but after the first try
He can't stop

Xavier kept calling the deer to come... but the deer just kept a distance from our car
"so disappointing"

The animals come right up to the car and stick their heads inside with no fear whatsoever.  we, on the other hand, eek!

This is the Blesbok

This is Bontebok

Axis Deer

The Zebras were really hungry so their noses were in our car looking for food

This is Aoudads (African Wild Sheep) - the one I most afraid of...
they will stuck their head all the way in to get food
super aggressive!!!!

Half way there was a place to get out, stretch and have our packed lunch

After resting for 30mins, we continued our adventure

Xavier trying to find animals by using his imaginary binocular LOL

Xavier was intimidated by this deer and kept asking it to "go away"

Finally spotted the giraffe, getting ready for the feed

See the numbers of car queuing

Unfortunately they were full by the time we got there so they didn't come up to our car
Super disappointing

The rhinos and the cheetahs were behind fences, but still really cool to see

Ended our day with

To end our family day trip with Xavier posing
"I am 2 years old"
Cute!

After our dinner,
we off the lights and prepare to sing birthday song for him again
this time with yiyi, yi zhang and ah ma skyping from Singapore

Happy Birthday!
We love you so MUCH

All about Xavier at 2 years old

2 years?! Can you believe it? It seems like just yesterday I found out I was pregnant and now he's a little boy. Oh how the time flies when you become a parent. I can honestly say that every age is fun when it's your baby. Of course every age definitely has it's challenges too! But watching Xavier grow and learn new things is so exciting and fun. I love being a Mom. Not to be too cheesy, but i honestly feel so fulfilled by it! To raise a little soul that loves you is wonderful. There is nothing I would rather be doing with my life. Xavier brings so much joy to our life everyday and we can't imagine life without him now.

Xavier is just as happy, busy and active as ever! He has always kept me on my toes as a mom because he is so curious and excited about everything around him. I wouldn't have it any other way. He's such a sweet, loving boy and makes life fun!

Funny things Xavier says/does at 2:

- He says "Thank you mummy" when you get things for him
- He says "love you" on occasions, mostly at bed time
- He say "Sorry" when he knows that he has done wrong
- He says "Excuse me" at times
- Sometimes when he found something he wants, he will say "I got it! I got it!"
- He will request "mama papa sing" to sing along with him
- When he wakes up before me, he will say "wake up mummy"
- When he could not find papa, he will say "Where are you?"
- Whenever he is throwing a tantrum, he will say "Go away"
- Whenever he wants help, he will say "help please"
- When he wants more bread, he will say "some more"
-  and many....many... many MORE..........

We LOVE this little boy so much! Happy 2nd Birthday Xavier!
Life with you really is the greatest adventure of all!

Xavier Loves Puzzle

Xavier loves puzzle alot and he's getting quite good with them
So far, he can nearly put together a 8 piece jigsaw puzzle
all by himself and the block puzzles for toddlers
are no longer a challenge to him

Full of expressions

After a long day at school
Xavier is still as cheeky as ever
He loves taking photos... he will hold still and pose
super cute!
