First spoon feeding experience

For the past weeks, Buddy started to grab my spoon during mealtimes. Before he attempts to feed himself, I tried to give him a spoon to play during mealtimes. He would bang against the high chair or dropped it on the floor... I felt frustrated at times but I knew it's part of his learning process.

Buddy has not yet developed enough skills so I've to use two spoons during feeding time. Let him practice feeding himself with one spoon, while I get a few spoonfuls porridge in with another.

Updates on Buddy's Playhut

After lunch I went to the leasing office to collect my package
Buddy's playhut finally came!
When I brought it into the house
Somehow buddy knew it was for him
Instantly, he crawled on top of the box and claimed for it :)

Photobucket Photobucket

it comes with 3 separate sparts - entrance door, tunnel and ball zone (comes with 15 soft balls)
Good quality and is easy to assemble

Buddy loves to crawl from the ball zone to the tunnel area

 Buddy's favourite- ball zone

Somehow buddy doesn't like the flap door entrance/exit. He just refuse to get out from there.
He  will exit from the ball zone by pulling down the net.

Lessons From a Child

spot on a meaningful quote on facebook:

“A child can teach an adult three things:

To be happy for no reason,

To always be busy with something,

And to know how to demand with all his might that which he desires.”

Buddy's first summer buzz by papa and mama

This is not really a crafty project, but it was definitely a project nonetheless. We'r definitely not terribly good at cutting hair but we do well enough that we can get away with not taking buddy to the salon or barber shop. And we think he's young enough that it doesn't phase him if it isn't perfect.

We knew it was time to give buddy a buzz after seeing him wakes up from his nap with crazy hair. So I held him while hubby buzz....We were impressed that he sat in the sink through the whole thing without any fuss

Now, it should make doing his hair so much easier and should keep him cooler in these crazy hot summer days.

Playhut Thomas the Tank Playzone

I've been wanting to get a crawl through tunnel for buddy. Research a few websites and found a 3 in 1 playhut which includes a flap door entrance, a ball zone and a crawl tunnel price at $39.99. I think it's quite reasonable, the crawl tunnel alone already priced at $29.99. Oh yeah, also bought a bag of soft flex ball for the ball zone.

Really hope that Buddy will enjoy and have fun! Will have more updates once the shipment arrives!

First taste of Deluxe Baby Porridge

Buddy is approaching to his 9 months mark. At 8.5 months, we started to add traditional asian porridge aka congee to his diet. After a week of trying, buddy finally accepted the new taste and texture.

I've name it as "deluxe baby porridge" because I've added many nutritious and delicious ingredients to the porridge: Protein (chicken tenderloins), dried scallop (make soup extra yummy), silver fish (which is loaded with calcium), broccoli florets, carrots (rich in vitamin C) and ginger (add flavour, increase appetite and it helps expelling wind)

This recipe is very versatile because the combinations can be change. I can use a different protein everyday (chicken, ground pork, fish, or beef), change potato (Sweet potato or white), squash (pumpkin, butternut or yellow squash), vitamin C, different grains (brown + white rice or millet)

And I always find the tastiest porridge is cooked with lots of stirring efforts. People used to say, 'stirring your food is like you're adding love into the pot.' So do stir as much as you can! :)

buddy's 8 Months Checkup

Brought Buddy to Coppell Pediatrics for his 8 months check up. He's already 8months and 3weeks old...so which mean this checkup is long overdue.
The nurse measures and weighs him, currently 9.5kg.
PD check the eyes, mouth and ears etc
Everything is good and buddy is growing well.

After finding out more about the 12 months vaccine schedule, the PD note that Buddy did not have HIB vaccine which is not require in Singapore but is a must in USA. So, Buddy ended up having 2 jabs, 1 on each thight. The Hib vaccine (immunization) prevents childhood Haemophilus influenzae b infections, which can cause severe and potentially deady illnesses that affect the brain, lungs, and bones or joints.

After PD is done with him, the nurse came in with the vaccine. The nurse held his legs and poke in real hard and fast. Buddy was shocked and gave out a loud cry.  He stopped the moment papa carried him up with tears still in his eyes.... so heart pain!!!

Going for his next vaccine in 6 weeks time.

Good Morning, Mama & Papa

Every morning, while we are still in our cozy bed, our little buddy will "ah...ah..ah" and "wu...wu....wu" to wake us up. Buddy will always greet us with his smile. Lovely moments like this, melt our hearts :)

My first homemade butter cake

I've never bake a cake in my life before but I'm willing to give it a try.

Went online to search for easy to follow recipe and I came across butter cake, has an old fashioned simplicity and hominess. It's a kind of cake that I will have with a cup of coffee in the afternoon.

Ingredients needed were just all purpose flour, baking powder, eggs, sugar, butter, Vanilla extract and yogurt and preparation time needed was just 30 mins.
Thanks Candy for lending me the kitchen scale and mould.

I would say my first attempt is consider a success. The taste was good but the texture was a little overcook. Definitely will give it a try again.
