We are really quite anxious about Xavier's first time on a plane. Our main concern is the changes in the air pressure during take off and landing. It basically makes our ears "pop"! we as adults are able to unpop our ears by swallowing saliva but babies doesn't how to do that yet. So how did Xavier manage the trip? Read on...
We had an early flight. We woke up around 245am in the morning just to do the final checks and make sure nothing was missed out later on. We reached the airport at about 4am and still feeling rather sleeply. Xavier was also wide wake but noticeably tired as he just laid in the stroller not wanting to move.
We had our breakfast together with gong gong, ahyi, yi zhang, lao kin, jiu jiu and lastly jiu mu, they were there to send us off. At 5.20am, all of us head towards to our department gate. This was the most difficult time - saying goodbyes and bon voyage but I would say, especially my mum, took it quite well... she did tear a little but she was alright when we check in and by this time Xavier was already fast asleep.
After fumbling with putting away the stroller and carrier, boarding also went smoothly. We had our stroller check in at the gate. Basically, they will tag the stroller with a business priority and you will have the stroller back arriving at each transit ready for us to use and push the baby around.
We boarded
in the first group due to having a baby with us.
Xavier was
really great on the flight. He took his milk and slept as usual. He slept through take-off, landing and most of the
way. One of the flight attendants came back to see him a few times but he always
seemed to be sleeping!
During the first flight from SIN to Narita, we did not manage to get the bulkhead seats but luckily the seats are pretty spacious and Xavier was so mesmerized with the little TV infront of him which keeps him occupied at least 3/4 of the flight.
Our
experience flying with a baby was a really positive one. We just hope that
Xavier keeps up the good behavior and cooperates with us on future flights.
Here's some pic we took:
