Hot and Dry weather - Summer

Nowadays, the weather is really hot and dry outside

the temperature range from 39-41 degree celsius

And, this has caused buddy's nasal to be super dry and resulted in nose bleed

Nasal drying is very common in the summer with air-conditioning

I had placed a cool mist humidifier in the room and also spray saline water into his nose

These help curb nose bleeding and the dehumidifying effect of the salt-water arrests drying of the mucous membrane.

Weaning pacifier - Day 8

It's been a week, buddy is able to sleep without a pacifier and I didn't know it will be so smooth!!!

We are just so proud of him :)

And, we are please to conclude that we have successfully weaned him off from pacifier!!! Hooray!!!

weaning pacifier - day 3 and 4

I'm really glad that Buddy is doing very well and we were surprised and this whole process was not as hard as I expected. Thank God!

For the past 2 nights, I put buddy to sleep at 8.45pm and noticed that he moved his lips as if he was sucking while hugging his smelly pillow. I know that he was feeling uneasy but he did not cry or fuss at all and after awhile he managed to sooth himself to sleep and he slept through the night until the next morning 7am. Thank god!

Papa and mama really proud of you! Keep it up, buddy :)

Buddy, the little explorer :)

Buddy has become a wild man and is into everything he's not supposed to be. He's such a curious boy and I can just see his little brain working. He loves to get into the kitchen, loves to crawl behind the cabinets to get hold of wires and cables and loves to crawl into the toilets. We love that he's such a curious and adventurous boy!

 He's got crawling down very well and now loves to pull up and stand like a big boy.

pincer grasp skill - updates!!!

Buddy is perfecting his pincer grasp skill. He is able to pick up Happy baby organic green puff and feed himself easily. I think he enjoying the self feeding progress.

Now, baby puffs on the highchair tray... coming up will be bits of peas, corn and small pieces of cheese.

weaning of pacifier - day 2

Nap time came, buddy manage to sleep without his pacifier. I put him in his crib and sang his bedtime songs to him. Slightly less than 15 mins, he was fast asleep. So, it was not that hard.

But, when night time came, this time it takes longer time for him to fall asleep. I read him a bedtime story, rubbing his back, patting him and humming a song .... ALL DID NOT WORK. He just couldn't fall asleep. Finally, I carried buddy up from the crib to craddle him and pat him. He fell asleep not long after that.

He did wake up a few times at 4am, 5am and 6am and I got to cradle and pat him back to sleep. Unlike last time, I just need to let him have the pacifier and he will go back to sleep himself. Now, I got to spend some time to sooth him back to sleep. He was tossing around and I know that Buddy was feeling uneasy. But finally he was able to get back to sleep.

I pray that Buddy will have a good night sleep tonight.

Bye Bye Pacifier

Hubby and I agreed that once Buddy turned 8 months old, we'd be weaning Buddy off from pacifier. Yes, he only EVER has had it during night and naps but we still feel like at 8 months old he needs to be a "big boy" and be rid of the paci. I'm just afraid that he will get more and more attached to it.

I know that it's going to be very difficult. I'm afraid that I cannot take his screaming and crying episodes for long and will give in to him. But, I still give it a try.

Buddy's first day without a paci - Buddy did not wake up during the night asking for paci. He slept through the night until the next morning. But it took him a while to fall asleep, he would toss and turn before he could fall asleep.  

Today is the 2nd day weaning off pacifier... HOOREY but it was not easy for me and baby.

I was glad that today was a success that he napped and slept without his pacifier. I hope this can continue and before weekend arrives, he can successfully wean off his pacifier. One more thing, I pray very hard that he will not wake up crying for pacifier in the middle of the night.

Trial Class @ gymboree updates

So we arrived at Gymboree (Lewisville Flower Mound Branch), all ready for his trial class in Level 2: play and learn, which was for babies aged from 6-10 months. We entered the play floor and buddy looked around curiously at all the bright colours and babies around, the happy gymboree music playing in the background.

At first, Buddy was overwhelmed and shy, not wanting to leave my lap and holding on quite tightly. I think it's probably because he's not used to being with so many unfamiliar people on a playmat. But as the teacher, Ms Brandi eased into the 2nd song, he was off my lap and sitting on the mat all by himself.

The 45 minutes class flew by - he crawled through the tunnel, rocking on the boat,played some singing games, sang and dance, watches the bubbles with utter amazement and the giant parachute.

Yeah, we signed up after the class! The summer deal is amazing - $20 off the for the first 3 month, no new member fee and the best part - you can take unlimited play classes until labour day! Plus, there is open gym time. Spending $47 to get quality playtime, i think is very worth it!  

What an exciting summer we’re going to have!

First Father's Day 2012 updates

Despite me being the main caregiver 24/7, nothing beats the presence of papa to my buddy. Every morning, whenever papa calls out to buddy, he will flash his megawatt smile and try ways and means to get to his favourite papa. He will get really excited when papa comes home from work, he will always raise up his arms because he wants to be carried by papa. I can't say how glad I am that Kelvin is the papa of our buddy. At least, I know I have chosen a great man to be his papa.

You're the best papa ever! We love you :)

Trial Class @ Gymboree

This afternoon, we attended the free trial play class at Gymboree. At first, Buddy was overwhelmed by the crowd of babies when we entered the play floor but he eased into the activities very quickly and we had a great time :)

pincer grasp skill - improved!!!

I've bought the Happy baby organic green puff for buddy to try.  They are just so handy, has an acceptable amt of nutrients in it (vege juice, wholemeal grains) and sweetened with juice and significantly less sweet than the Gerber graduates puff. Buddy tried and love it very much! It melts very well (no choking risk) and is as healthy as I would like any such snacks to be. And yet not too filling to affect meals.

I think awareness of health for babies are increasing and many moms i know are very careful about sugar and salt content in those products sold in the supermarkets. many are now going into organics, because not only are they pesticides free, they are also free of artificial sugars and low sugars.

And, here's an update on Buddy's pincer grasp skill. He has improved alot. He can use his thumb and forefinger to pick up his puff and feed himself more accurately. Good job, Xavier!!!

Buddy can now easily crawl. He loves to crawl and explore the standing fan, wires, door stopper, sockets and many many more....he'll be on the go as long somethings catches his eyes. I think he loves the freedom of crawling :)

Gymboree Trial Class

We have sign up buddy for the 6-10months Gymboree play and learn 2 trial class on 16 June 2012, Saturday. The duration of the class is 45mins. They will learn about cause and effect and build strength through play with ramps, slides and climbers. It also include parent discussion time to help learn about child's development.

I think its kinda fun! Hope buddy likes it too!

Buddy turns 8 Months

Today our little buddy is 8 months old!

I know that I say this almost every month but I can't believe how time files and how far I have come as a Mom. The journey of motherhood definitely brought on lots of bitter-sweet memories. But there are also the sweetest moments when Xavier first gazed into my eyes and smiled, giggled and laughed, learning to sit, roll and stand. This is just the beginning of a very wonderful journey which I longed for and am embracing with wide open arms and a big smile.

He is at such a fun age. He spends his days discovering new things and becoming more and more aware of what is around him. He is so sweet and interactive, it really makes my days a lot of fun.

He is certainly growing though. He is currently weighing around 9kg (75 percentile) with a height of 74cm (80 percentile). We'r convince that he is going to be a tall baby!

We love you, little buddy!!!
