I will want to credit to his Chinese teacher, 高老师 Since young, he had not been able to speak proper Mandarin or I should say refuse to converse in Mandarin. Whenever I try to communicate with him, he will always reply me in English. However, after from June last year, I can always hear him trying to converse in Mandarin and is quite fluent in it. All thanks to his lao Shi for being so patient and encouraging towards him.
This year is special for us! Xavier gets to celebrate CNY in Singapore. The first CNY was in 2012, when he was only 3 months old. Time really fly past so fast! Definitely, now he is able to appreciate CNY alot more than before. He enjoys house visiting and he would bring along two mandarin oranges to exchange with our relatives and friends and wishes everyone "Gong Xi Fa Chai".
Xavier attended his first CNY celebration in school
It was held in Tampines Safra Auditorium and parents were being invited too
All the students (PN, N, K1 & K2) had prepared a little performance for us
Thanks to all teachers for their extra effort put in to rehearse and practise besides the daily curriculum. It is not easy... *Thumbs up* Performance from Nursery Class
Xavier has been interested in using the scissors lately. So, I cut up some long strips of paper and drew different types of lines (curved, straight and zig zagged) for him to follow.
Frankly speaking, I have never thought of working with him on using scissors. I taught him his letters, shapes, numbers and animals etc but scissors never entered into the equation. Then last week, while I was on the internet researching for online teaching materials, I come across the importance of cutting/scissor skill. After reading it, I was amazed.
"Why kids need to learn to use scissors:
cutting with scissors builds muscles in the hands needed for fine motor skills like writing and painting - anything that requires a grip
It helps strengthen hand-eye coordination, so your child is more coordinated (like for throwing balls and such)
It works on bilateral coordination - two sides of the body work together (e.g. holding the paper with one hand while cutting with the other)"
